From an end users perspective, it's always nice to see developers take a step back and focus on streamlining their code, rather than simply piling on new features. Apple used the strategy to great success with Snow Leopard, and now Canonical is set to follow suit with Raring Ringtail, also known as Ubuntu 13.04. The latest version of the popular Linux distro is set for general availability tomorrow, which follows a beta release and a controversial amount of secrecy. Raring Ringtail is characterized as "the fastest and most visually polished Ubuntu experience to date," with a particular emphasis on a smaller memory footprint and greater responsiveness. Much of the streamlining effort was in preparation for Ubuntu's future life in mobile, and to coincide with that effort, developers will find a preview SDK for app development and the ability to test apps within the MIR display server. The release is now a mere hours away, and yes, it'll be a good day.

Alistair McDermott, Director of Knowledge Services at the University, and Shena Mitchell, Director of Innovation Warehouse, at the newly opened Innovation Centre on Hampshire Terrace
A one-stop shop for innovation, entrepreneurship and the creation of new jobs for the city opened at the University of Portsmouth yesterday.
The University has invested ?500,000 into the Innovation Centre, on Hampshire Terrace to help ignite the growth of entrepreneurship and businesses in the region.
The centre has two floors dedicated to help business owners and managers work alongside academics to develop new products or routes to markets, and two floors dedicated to the Innovation Warehouse, an engine room for individuals and start-up companies looking for serious growth and new business opportunities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor John Craven officially opens the Innovation Centre
The combination of the two elements is a first for the University, which has never before provided space for businesses, and a first for Portsmouth, which is now the second city in the UK to be home to the Innovation Warehouse, a concept designed and tested in its London headquarters and which has, in 18 months, helped eight new business ventures to launch.
The launch of the centre was attended by local business and civic leaders, including businesses from the Isle of Wight, academics whose research has potential to deliver a boost to businesses, local media and strategic managers from the University and Innovation Warehouse.
The University?s new Innovation Centre aims to help fledgling and medium-sized businesses
Alistair McDermott, Director of Knowledge Services at the University, said: ?The launch of Innovation Space is about the University bringing wealth and jobs to the region and promoting engagement with experts from University.
?Together with the Innovation Warehouse, we are now in a position to help support local entrepreneurship and growth, which the city and region needs.?
The University?s goal for the centre is to put like-minded people in science and innovation together side by side to find new ways of solving problems or to come up with answers to help businesses make a step change in the development of new products or services.
Alistair said: ?We are committed to offering businesses direct access to researchers who are experts in their field to help create sparks of innovation and business growth. The businesses which have already joined us will be working with our experts in artificial intelligence to help improve their profit margins.?
The top two floors are dedicated to the Innovation Warehouse, which launched in London in 2011 after a philanthropist saw a need for those with entrepreneurial spirit and ideas to be given space to develop and fine-tune their ideas, products and goals.
The co-founders and directors offer mentoring, coaching and support help in writing business plans which stand a chance of working and, crucially, regular meetings with successful business directors and potential funders. In return for investment, they can take a share in businesses they help develop.
Tony Fish, Director of London?s Innovation Warehouse, said: ?We are about giving direct access to market for entrepreneurs with progressive and novel ideas.
?What we offer is not for everyone but it is a strong launch-pad for businesses which have brilliant potential but also some gaps or hurdles ahead of them.
?The gaps could be anything from understanding business concepts including intellectual property or company and product law, access to finance, pitching for funding, marketing and technical skills such as software development.
?You could say we are de-risking people who already have ideas worth millions.?
The Innovation Warehouse has plans to open eight more centres in the next two years and is working with partners to develop these in Leeds, Oxford, Croydon and New York.
Shena Mitchell, director of Innovation Warehouse Portsmouth, said: ?When the co-founders and co-directors were looking to invest and start a new Innovation Warehouse I persuaded them to consider Portsmouth.
?Having worked in the city for the last 20 years, I believe there are many people in Portsmouth ready to start their own businesses and who just need the kind of support we have to offer.?

LONDON (AP) ? A group of independent experts has slammed Britain's cosmetic surgery industry for not protecting patients adequately and is calling for stricter controls in the aftermath of a breast implant scandal in Europe last year that left tens of thousands of women with cheap silicone implants prone to ruptures. A top British health official, meanwhile, signaled support for their recommendations.
In a review of how cosmetic procedures are regulated, the group said all skin fillers should be available by prescription only and that all practitioners ? from surgeons to aestheticians who inject Botox ? must be properly qualified. The expert group, commissioned by the U.K. Department of Health, also called for the creation of a registry of implants and other medical devices and an ombudsman for private health care, among other suggestions.
The recommendations were released in a report on Wednesday.
The British government has previously rejected calls to oversee cosmetic procedures and the industry is largely self-regulated. There are few rules on who is allowed to perform a non-surgical cosmetic intervention.
"Anyone can give you a (skin) filler anytime, anywhere," said Bruce Keogh, medical director of the National Health Service, who led the review. "This is a bizarre situation."
During an embargoed press briefing on Monday, Keogh said the commercialization of the industry has led to some questionable claims about the efficacy of certain procedures.
"This is a pretty data-free zone," Keogh said.
In the report, Keogh and others wrote that a person having a non-surgical procedure such as a Botox injection "has no more protection and redress than someone buying a ballpoint pen."
They noted that the cosmetic interventions sector has grown by 300 percent in the last five years and that the use of procedures such as injecting substances to smooth out the skin make up 75 percent of the market. "It is our view that dermal fillers are a crisis waiting to happen," the report concluded. Side effects from skin fillers can include scarring, infection and even blindness.
Catherine Kydd, a Briton who received faulty breast implants, said stricter ethical policies should be in place for those who perform cosmetic surgeries and procedures.
"When you see a surgeon, you shouldn't be seeing a salesman," she said.
Regulations on cosmetic interventions in the U.K. are more lax than elsewhere. In Denmark, anyone carrying out cosmetic interventions must be registered with a national health board. When standards are breached, the board can suspend a clinic's operations, impose fines, strike professionals off the register and refer cases to the police. There is no such system in the U.K.
Keogh noted there are about 190 different types of skin fillers available in Europe versus only 14 approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In a statement, Dr. Dan Poulter, a senior minister in the Department of Health, said it was time for the government to step in. "There is a significant risk of people falling into the hands of cowboy firms or individuals or individuals whose only aim is to make a quick profit," he said.
Poulter said the government would respond to the report in detail in the summer.

DHAKA (Reuters) - An eight-storey block housing garment factories and a shopping center collapsed on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital on Wednesday, killing nearly 100 people and injuring hundreds more, officials said.
Fire fighters and army personnel worked frantically through the day at the Rana Plaza building in Savar, 30 km (19 miles) outside Dhaka, to rescue people trapped in the rubble. Television showed young women workers, some apparently semi-conscious, being pulled from the debris.
One fireman told Reuters that about 2,000 people were in the building when the upper floors jolted down on top of each other.
Bangladesh's booming garment industry has been plagued by fires and other accidents for years, despite a drive to improve safety standards. In November last year, 112 workers were killed in a blaze at the Tazreen factory in a nearby industrial suburb.
"It looks like an earthquake has struck here," said one resident as he looked on at the chaotic scene of smashed concrete and ambulances making their way through the crowds of workers and wailing relatives.
"I was at work on the third floor, and then suddenly I heard a deafening sound, but couldn't understand what was happening. I ran and was hit by something on my head," said Zohra Begum a worker at one of the factories.
An official at a control room set up to provide information about the missing and injured said that 96 people were confirmed dead and more than 700 were injured.
CRACKS IN THE BUILDING
Mohammad Asaduzzaman, in charge of the area's police station, said factory owners appeared to have ignored a warning not to allow their workers into the building after a crack was detected in the block on Tuesday.
Five garment factories - employing mostly women - were housed in the building, including Ether Tex Ltd., whose chairman told Reuters he was unaware of any warnings not to open the workshops.
"There were some crack at the second floor, but my factory was on the fifth floor," said Muhammad Anisur Rahman. "The owner of the building told our floor manager that it is not a problem and so you can open the factory."
He said that his firm had been sub-contracted to supply Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the world's largest retailer, and Europe's C&A.
Last November's factory fire put a spotlight on global retailers that source clothes from Bangladesh, where low wages - as little as $37 a month for some workers - have helped propel the country to no. 2 in the ranks of apparel exporters.
It emerged later that a Wal-Mart supplier had subcontracted work to the Tazreen factory without authorization.
Buildings in the crowded city of Dhaka are sometimes erected without permission and many do not comply with construction regulations. Dozens died when a garment factory collapsed in the same area eight years ago.

Park Ridge, Ill. (April 23, 2013) This week at Experimental Biology (EB) 2013, scientists from around the world are gathering to share research on a variety of topics, including nutrition and health. Given the growing global burden of chronic disease, there is particular interest in the important role of diet and nutrition in overall health. Several studies presented at the conference looked specifically at the role of whole egg consumption in high-risk groups, including those with metabolic syndrome and heart disease, as well as the satiating effects of high-protein breakfast consumption for overweight adolescents.
Evidence to Support Eggs as Part of a Heart Healthy Diet
Research from Yale University explored the impact of daily whole egg consumption in men and women with coronary heart disease(1). The subjects were randomized to consume either two eggs, cup of egg substitute or a high-carbohydrate breakfast for six weeks as part of their typical diet. The subjects who ate either whole eggs or egg substitute did not experience any negative impact in total cholesterol, blood pressure, body weight or endothelial function. The researchers concluded that whole eggs can be a part of a heart healthy diet, even in those with existing coronary heart disease.
Whole Egg Consumption Promotes Favorable Lipid Changes in those with Metabolic Syndrome
Research from the University of Connecticut suggested that daily whole egg consumption may have a positive effect on the function and composition of HDL cholesterol in adults with metabolic syndrome. Subjects followed a carbohydrate-restricted diet, and consumed either three eggs per day or an equivalent amount of egg substitutes(2). After 12 weeks, subjects consuming whole eggs experienced improvements in HDL (good cholesterol) composition and ability to remove cholesterol from the blood.
Those eating three whole eggs daily also had HDL that was lower in triacylglycerol and higher in a beneficial component of egg yolks (phosphatidylethanolaime)(2). "Taken together with previously established benefits of egg intake on HDL profiles, these findings further support the notion that eggs serve as a functional food to reduce cardiovascular disease risk in individuals with metabolic syndrome," says Catherine Andersen, lead study author and PhD candidate at the University of Connecticut.
High Protein Breakfast Results in Decreased Daily Calorie Intake
Researchers at University of Missouri presented data comparing the effects of a normal-protein cereal breakfast (15% meal calories), high-protein egg and pork breakfast (40% meal calories) and no breakfast on satiety in overweight/obese adolescents who normally skip breakfast(3). The group that consumed the high protein egg and pork breakfast reported a decrease in hunger and an increase in fullness compared to the normal protein and breakfast-skipping group. The individuals eating a high protein breakfast also voluntarily reduced their intake by more than 400 calories per day over the 12-week study. No significant differences were seen in weight between groups; however, breakfast skippers were found to have significant increases in percent body fat mass compared to those who ate the normal and high protein breakfasts. This study supports the benefits of a high protein breakfast as a weight management strategy among overweight and obese adolescents(3).
"This year's EB program showcased cutting-edge nutrition research with wide-reaching public health implications," says Mitch Kanter, PhD, Executive Director of the Egg Nutrition Center. "Furthermore, many studies underscore a positive role for eggs in the current chronic disease challenges we face." Apr. 23, 2013 ? Astronomy & Astrophysics is publishing Herschel observations of water in Jupiter's stratosphere. It is a clear remnant of the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet impact on Jupiter nearly 20 years ago.
In July 1994, the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 (SL9) hit Jupiter and left visible scars on the Jovian disk for weeks. This spectacular event was the first direct observation of an extraterrestrial collision in the solar system, and it was followed worldwide by professional and amateur astronomers.
SL9 was discovered orbiting Jupiter by astronomers David Levy and Carolyn and Eugene M. Shoemaker on March 24, 1993. It was the first comet observed orbiting a planet rather than the Sun. SL9 was found to be composed of 21 fragments. Soon after that, orbital studies showed that the comet had passed within Jupiter's Roche limit in July 1992. Inside this limit, the planet's tidal forces are strong enough to disintegrate a body held together by its own gravity, thus explaining SL9's fragmentation. Even more interestingly, the studies showed that SL9's orbit would pass within Jupiter in July 1994 and that the comet would then collide with the planet, with impacts in the southern hemisphere near 44?S latitude.
The SL9 impact and its subsequent scars on Jupiter were observed for weeks, but its chemical impact on Jupiter's atmosphere lasted even longer. Emission from water vapor was observed during the fireball phase of the SL9 impacts, but from that observation, it was difficult to assess how this would modify Jupiter's composition on the long term. In 1997, the ESA Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) detected water vapor in the stratosphere of Jupiter. At that time, astronomers suspected that it might be a consequence of the SL9 impact because comets are known to be water-rich bodies. However, there were other possible sources of water: interplanetary dust particles produced by cometary activity and asteroid collisions, icy rings, or one of the 60 Jovian satellites.
Nearly twenty years after this major impact, astronomers are still observing its consequences on Jupiter. T. Cavali? and his colleagues [1] observed Jupiter with the ESA Herschel Space Observatory, which is sensitive enough to map the abundance of water vs. latitude and altitude in the Jovian stratosphere. These observations, which have now been published in Astronomy & Astrophysics, show a clear north-south asymmetry in the distribution of water, with more water in the south. They indicate that 95% of the water currently observed on Jupiter comes from the comet.

At a press briefing in Beijing with Martin Dempsey, chairman of US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Fang Fenghui offered some agreement on the damage of cyberattacks, a 'friction point' in US-China relations.

So, is China finally coming around to America?s point of view?
Visiting China for the first time as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey arrived at the Chinese Defense Ministry Monday for a closed-door meeting with his People's Liberation Army (PLA) counterpart. Their talk lasted an hour longer than expected, an encouraging sign potentially signaling a substantive dialogue, senior US military officials said.
Cyberattacks figured prominently on the agenda. In an interview Sunday, General Dempsey called it a ?friction point? between the countries.?
In discussing Dempsey?s visit to China, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, for his part, called cyberattacks ?the greatest threat to our security ? economic security, political security, diplomatic security, military security ? that confronts us.??
On Monday, a top Chinese military officer, Gen. Fang Fenghui, offered some agreement on that point, saying of cyber insecurity that ?the damaging consequences it causes may be as serious as a nuclear bomb.??
General Fang also offered some support for the idea of a working group to discuss cybersecurity, suggested by Secretary of State John Kerry during his visit to China earlier this month.?
?I believe that it is important to set up the idea that we should jointly work on this issue and set up a mechanism to enhance coordination and cooperation on cybersecurity,? Fang said during a press conference after the meetings.?
Dempsey's visit this week, considered relatively long at three-plus days, comes on the heels of a report released in February from a cybersecurity firm that charges that a special dedicated cell of China?s People's Liberation Army, housed in a building in downtown Beijing, is waging cyberattacks on the United States.
?At a very particular building in China, a group of individuals has undertaken systematic exfiltration of a variety of materials related to the defense of the United States, among other things, over a substantial period of time,? is how FBI Director Robert Mueller described the report in a hearing on Capitol Hill earlier this month.?
Recently, the US military has begun to respond to such intrusions in part by advertising its own talents in cyberoffense ? long a highly secret topic for the Pentagon ? in the hopes it would prove to be a deterrent, in the way veiled threats sometimes are.?
The US Air Force, for example, now has a line item in its budget for cyberoffense, including ?exfiltration of information while operating within adversary operating systems.? The force will spend more than twice on offensive cyber research what it will on research for cyberdefense next year, according to the same budget documents.?
Senior US officials, increasingly arguing that the nation needs it, say they are particularly concerned about China?s economic cyberespionage, which includes the sort of ?exfiltration of information? mentioned in the new defense budget as a cyberoffensive skill that US forces would like to hone.
In that point, US military officials are hoping that America?s cyber enemies see an implicit quid-pro-quo link.?
Dempsey emphasized some links during his trip, as well. Though the United States is currently the top economy in the world, ?they?re closing,? he said of China, adding that ?at some point? the Chinese may ?find themselves in the preeminent? economic position.?
In that case, they may have a greater interest in coming to an agreement on cyber.? ?
?Cyber threatens our economy and their economy,? Dempsey said of the attacks. ?The time to try to resolve those issues is now.?

ATLANTA (AP) ? A rare open U.S. Senate seat in Georgia promises a scrambled 2014 campaign that already has some Republicans quietly nervous about retaining it.
Democrat Barack Obama lost the state in both of his White House races, and it's a seat that Republicans cannot afford to lose as they try to regain a Senate majority for the final two years of his presidency.
The question is whether a bruising party primary becomes a liability, particularly if voters nominate U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, who once called evolution and the Big Bang Theory "lies straight from the pit of hell."
Broun and U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, both conservative physicians, are the only Republicans to announce officially since incumbent Saxby Chambliss said he will retire. But the GOP primary field eventually could include as many as a half-dozen candidates with a credible shot at a runoff spot.
Broun, whose district includes the University of Georgia in Athens, drew national headlines last year for that science commentary he delivered at a church. He's flouted GOP leaders on recent fiscal votes, saying the party's position wasn't conservative enough.
In a recent fundraising letter, he boasted that he was the first member of Congress to call Obama "a socialist who embraces Marxist-Leninist policies."
That makes Broun a tea party and evangelical favorite. To other Republicans, however, such comments stir memories of 2012 losses in Senate races in Missouri and Indiana where the GOP nominees, Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock, made controversial comments about women, rape and abortion.
"There's no question that the Republican Party in Georgia and the nation are concerned that we could have another Todd Akin-type scenario here," said Heath Garrett, a Republican campaign consultant and former top aide to Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson.
Democrats control 55 seats in the Senate, and Republicans would need to hang on to the ones they control now and pick up six more next year to take control for the first time since 2006.
At least one more Georgia congressman is likely to jump in, and a trio of Washington outsiders is considering the race: a wealthy Atlanta businesswoman who helped bankroll a Mitt Romney's presidential campaign; the former Susan G. Komen Foundation executive who took on Planned Parenthood; and the cousin of former Gov. Sonny Perdue.
"It's going to be a free-for-all with a lot of dominoes," said Sue Everhart, the head of the state GOP.
Isakson said he's neutral in the primary.
National conservative groups Freedom Works and Club for Growth, which have helped tea party candidates such as Texas Sen. Ted Cruz win high-profile races, say many candidates have talked to them about support. For now, both groups say they're watching the field develop. It would be a blow to Broun if he can't harness the support of either.
Democrats believe they can tap into the Missouri-Indiana playbook, particularly if U.S. Rep. John Barrow, a moderate from Augusta, runs. Barrow has survived consecutive elections as one of national Republicans' top House targets.
The state Democratic chairman, Mike Berlon, said Barrow has detractors among core Democrats for his vote against Obama's health care law, but said he'd expect enthusiasm at any opportunity to win back Chambliss's seat.
Berlon said the congressman is an ideal candidate to assemble a majority coalition of African-Americans, white urban liberals, suburban moderates and just enough rural conservatives. "We're already close," he said, noting that Obama got 47 percent in 2008 and 45.5 percent in 2012 "without the national party lifting a finger."
Garrett said that "if the Republican nominee scares suburban whites, John Barrow becomes a very formidable candidate."
Barrow has held meetings with major Democratic donors in Georgia and talked with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee leaders, but has not announced his intentions.
The only other Democrat making strong overtures is Michelle Nunn, a not-for-profit executive who's the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn, D-Ga.
Berlon said he expects Nunn and Barrow to meet soon to "talk about who's going to run."
On the Republican side, Rep. Jack Kingston of Savannah is expected to enter the race soon. He raised $843,000 in the first three months of the year, about 10 times what he collected during the same span two years ago when he was preparing only for an easy re-election to his 11th term.
Rep. Tom Price, vice chairman of the House Budget Committee, has said he won't make a move until after Congress passes a budget. But he's also got to consider that many high-profile GOP donors and strategists are lining up behind Gingrey or Kingston.
The longer Price waits, the more likely it is that Karen Handel, a former Georgia secretary of state, will run. The two are close friends.
After losing the 2010 Republican primary runoff for governor, Handel worked for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. She resigned amid controversy over her push to dissociate the organization from Planned Parenthood, a provider of women's health care and abortion services.
Two electoral newcomers would bring their personal wealth to the campaign.
Businessman David Perdue also has name ID as the cousin of a popular former governor.
Kelly Loeffler is a co-owner of the Atlanta-based company that recently bought the New York Stock Exchange and Atlanta's professional women's basketball team. She's never run for office, but is one of the top fundraisers for Romney last year and has been increasingly active in Georgia Republican political circles.
Chip Lake, a paid strategist for Gingrey, said the uncertainty makes it difficult to handicap the race.
Against Broun alone, Gingrey is a mainstream social and fiscal conservative, but he also caught heat earlier this year when he defended Akin.
Gingrey apologized, calling his own remarks "stupid." In a three-man race, Kingston becomes a favorite of many Chamber of Commerce Republicans. But Kingston also is from south Georgia, far from the population center of Atlanta, where Gingrey has won elections for decades.
Broun has just $217,000 in his campaign account, about one-tenth of his House rivals and not enough for one week of television ads in Atlanta. But he's also got a strong grass-roots following.
Handel can capitalize on experience in government, while still being an outsider to an unpopular Congress. She could be a particularly strong candidate if she's the only woman in the race.
But Loeffler could neutralize any gender advantage. Handel can use the Planned Parenthood flap to boost her conservative credentials, but she's had run-ins with staunch anti-abortion groups because she supports policy exceptions for rape, incest and to allow for in-vitro fertilization.
Loeffler can sell her success story and roots on an Illinois farm. But she'd still have to introduce herself to small town and rural Georgia as a millionaire from Atlanta.

The annual Lyrid meteor shower will peak tonight (April 21) and early Monday, but the moon's bright light may spoil the celestial fireworks display.
The Lyrid meteor shower occurs each year in mid-April when the Earth passes through a trail of dusty debris from the Comet Thatcher (C/1861 G1), which orbits the sun once every 415 years. Humans have been observing this particular meteor shower for at least 2,600 years.
Typically, the Lyrid meteor shower is a relatively faint stargazing event, though observers with clear dark skies away from city lights can usually spot up to 15 or 20 meteors an hour. The meteors appear to radiate out of the constellation Lyra (hence their name), which can be found in the eastern night sky tonight. [Amazing Lyrid meteor shower photos of 2012]
The moon is expected to spoil much of this year's Lyrid meteor display because it is currently in its bright gibbous phase, with the lunar disk nearly 85-percent illuminated, according to SPACE.com's stargazing columnist and meteorologist Joe Rao. That means that moonlight will likely wash out fainter Lyrid meteors, with only the brightest streakers being visible.
The best time to seek Lyrid meteors is actually in the wee hours of Monday morning (April 22) after the moon has set, but before the sun rises. This observing window opens at about 4 a.m. your local time and can close by about 4:30 a.m. At that time the Lyrid radiate will nearly directly overhead in the night sky, Rao explained.
Here are some tips to view the Lyrid meteor shower:
Don't stare directly at Lyra:?Focusing on the radiant point of the meteor shower sounds like a good idea, but the Lyrid that tend to occur there appear to have short tails and look more like unimpressive dots, NASA scientists have said. A better technique is to lie on your back (or a comfortable reclining chair) and look straight up.
Get comfortable: It can be a long, cold night without warm clothes or a blanket, depending on your location. Also, don't expect to just step outside and see some meteors. Make sure to give yourself at least 40 minutes to allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness.
Get away from city lights:?They really can spoil a meteor shower, and this year that potential is doubled since the moon is already interfering with the display.
The Lyrid meteor shower is not the only celestrial event occuring this week. On Thursday (April 25) the moon will pass through part of the Earth's shadow in a partial lunar eclipse. The eclipse will be primarily visible in its entirety from parts of?eastern Europe or Africa, central Asia and western Australia, according to NASA eclipse expert Fred Espenak.

It evolves into Golduck starting at level 33.
Psyduck resembles a yellow duck or platypus with a vacant stare. It has three small tufts of black hair at the top of its head. It walks on its hind legs, has a stubby tail, and has fake pokemon game map Rose Valley arms rather than wings. Its arms are useful in using its powerful psychic abilities. Its appearance, according to the Pokdex, is meant to trick enemies into thinking it is weak. It has arms with three claws on each to deliver scratches if threatened.
Psyduck is constantly stunned by its headache. It usually stands immobile, with a vacant expression, trying to calm its headache. However, when its headache becomes too severe, it releases tension in the form of strong psychic powers.
Psyduck are usually unable to think very clearly due to having a chronic headache. Because of the headache, a Psyduck will always hold its head. When these headaches worsen, Psyduck may use psychic powers.
Psyduck live in freshwater lakes, small ponds, or rivers in tropical areas. It is a widespread Pokmon common in Kanto, Johto, and Sinnoh. It has also been imported to the Hoenn Safari Zone.
Misty has a Psyduck that she accidentally caught in Hypno's Naptime. It is a constant source of frustration for her, as it frequently emerges from its Pok Ball to attempt to battle the opponent in substitution of one of her other Pokmon. Despite this, she has been shown to deeply care for it. Despite being generally shown as dimwitted and oblivious, when its headache gets bad enough, it has been shown to use phenomenally powerful Psychic-type moves which far exceed its normal ability.
In Bye Bye Psyduck,
a girl named Marina owned a Psyduck that wasn't as dopey as the one Misty had.
In Sitting Psyduck, a Psyduck was owned by a rich girl named Emily. However, the Psyduck didn't like having a pampered life-style and kept running away.
Nine Psyduck appeared in The Psyduck Stops Here!; six parents and three babies. Three of the parents were blocking the path that Ash and his friends tried to pass on their way to Celestic Town. The Psyduck weren't able to return to their real home, Lake Psyduck, due to three Muk.
Two Psyduck were part of an exhibition in Flower Power.
A Psyduck appeared in Beauty and the Breeder where it participated in a Pokmon breeding competition.
A Psyduck appeared in Dueling Heroes.
A Psyduck was used by one of the students of the Pokmon Trainer's School in Gonna Rule The School!.
A Psyduck appeared in Win, Lose, or Drew! as a Pokmon in the Contest.
A boy's Psyduck appeared in Once in a Mawile! when Samantha's Mawile fell in love
with it.
A Psyduck appeared in the opening of Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.
Team Rocket used a Psyduck in their scheme in Not on MY Watch Ya Don't!.
Psyduck made a small appearance in The Rise of Darkrai as one of the Pokmon Darkrai hit with a Dark Void.
A Psyduck belonging to a Coordinator appeared in Dawn's Early Night!. It was used along with a Duskull for the Double Performance required during the Hearthome Contest.
Dawn's Piplup spotted a Psyduck in Sleepless In Pre-Battle!.
In the How I Became a Pokmon Card manga, a Psyduck appears in Troubled Pokmon, Psyduck.
In the Red, Green & Blue chapter, an undead Psyduck that had been brought back to life by a Koga's Gastly appeared in the Pokmon Tower. It first appeared to Red like a normal Psyduck, until it attempted an assault on him: its eyeballs suddenly sunk into its eye sockets and some skin fell off, revealing its bones. Since it was just a mindless undead, it was easily destroyed by Red's Bulbasaur using Vine Whip.
After several other appearances, a herd of Psyduck appeared, blocking the route to Celestic Town, just as they had in the games. However, monstermmorpg monster Corazingo included among them were Trainer Pokmon, and this was all a ruse by Team Galactic, which Cynthia catches on to shortly after calming them.
Green's Psyduck debuted in The Big Battle In The Viridian Forest!!. Games Math
Satoshi has a Psyduck in the Pokmon Zensho manga.
Misty's Psyduck makes a small cameo in Pikachu's Excellent Adventure.
Psyduck is the third Pokfloat to appear. Fighting occurs on its head and beak. It then floats up and off the top of the screen as the fighting moves onto Chikorita.
Psyduck's apparent lack of feathers and ability to fly, along with its claws, suggest that its design draws inspiration from a platypus with some influence from ducks.
Psyduck is a combination
of psychic (referring to its mental powers) and duck.
Koduck may be a combination of ko (child) and duck.
Cinnabar Island (referred to in Japanese as both Guren Island and Guren Town) is a large island located off the southern coast of the Kanto region, south of Pallet Town. It is home to a large volcano. Blaine was once the resident Gym Leader specializing in Fire-type Pokmon, but as of Generation IV, Cinnabar Island no longer has a Gym. Cinnabar is a kind of red mineral, associated with hot springs and volcanoes. The island is connected to the mainland by two water routes: Route 20 in the east and Route 21 in the north, leading to Fuchsia City and Pallet Town, respectively.
The Generation I games reveal Cinnabar Island to be a technological mecca. The journals scattered about the abandoned Pokmon Mansion suggest that Mewtwo was cloned here. The scientists at the Pokmon Lab have the ability to resurrect Pokmon from their Fossils. Two years after the events of Generations I and III, as seen in Generations II and IV, a volcano erupted on the island, destroying everything except for the Pokmon Center, and the Cinnabar Gym has been relocated to the Seafoam Islands.
The Pokmon Mansion is a decrepit, burned-down mansion on Cinnabar Island. It got its name because a famous Pokmon Researcher once lived there. The Pokmon Mansion has four different floors. Doors can be unlocked in the Mansion by pressing switches hidden in Mewtwo statues. To access the Cinnabar Island Gym in Generations I and III, the main character has to enter the mansion and find the Secret Key to unlock the door of the Gym. Many burglars come to the mansion, trying to steal valuable items that may have been lost in the wreckage, challenging the player to a battle when spotted. Amongst the rubble and wreckage is information that the scientists who once worked there obtained a Mew and impregnated it with the genetically altered Mewtwo, who destroyed the mansion in its escape.
The Pokmon Lab is a laboratory located on Cinnabar Island. It was founded by Dr. Fuji and appears in the Generation I games and their remakes. The first room of the Pokmon Lab has two people who will offer to trade Pokmon. The old man will offer his Electrode for a Raichu, and the girl will want to trade her Tangela for a Venonat. In the second room, there is a man who will teach Metronome once to one of the player's Pokmon; in Generation I, he gives away TM35 (Metronome). In the third room, there is a scientist who
will revive the Fossils the player obtained at Mt. Moon and from the Pewter City Museum and a person who will trade his Seel for a Ponyta. In Silph Co., there is a Pokmon Report stating that Pokmon Lab created Porygon.
There is a volcano on Cinnabar Island which gives it its name. In Generation I and Generation III, the volcano that appears on Cinnabar Island cannot be accessed. In the anime, the volcano is a prominent feature of the island, and is where the Cinnabar Gym is located, split into two sections. One is inside of the volcano, and has an arena suspended over the lava inside one of the chambers, while the other is atop the volcano's crater. In Generation II and IV, three years after the events of Generation I and III, the volcano erupted on the island, destroying everything except for the Pokmon Center. What appeared to be a rain-filled crater could also be seen in Pokmon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the exterior of
the volcano can be scaled with Rock Climb. Judging by the maps of all four generations, the volcano originated where the Gym once stood.
The Cinnabar Gym is the official Gym of Cinnabar Island, it is based on Fire-type Pokmon and the Gym Leader is Blaine. Trainers who defeat him receive the Volcano Badge. The player is unable to enter the Gym at once; only when they obtain the Secret Key from the Pokmon Mansion can they unlock the door to the Gym. The Cinnabar Gym is a high-tech affair featuring a series of sealed doors. Trivia questions about various Pokmon must be answered to unseal the doors. However, when the player fails to answer a trivia question correctly, a battle with either a Burglar or Super Nerd results, an alternative to unsealing the doors. In Generations II and IV, Blaine's original Gym on Cinnabar Island was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. This forced him to relocate to a cave in the Seafoam Islands.
In Pokmon FireRed and LeafGreen, before the destruction of the island in the Generation II and Generation IV games, Cinnabar Island has a population of 36.
Cinnabar Island has a population of 9, making it one of the smallest towns in the Pokmon world. The volcano eruption destroyed most of how do i get monstermmorpg monster Spidarbor the island, with the Pokmon Center being the only building remaining.
Cinnabar Island has changed dramatically between Generations I and II as the city has been totally replaced by a large erupted volcano, removing everything except for the Pokmon Center. After the eruption, the Gym was relocated to the Seafoam Islands. Blue can be first found at Cinnabar Island, because he was in a bad mood and decided to take a stroll there. In Generation III, there are a few changes with the visual design, as the Pokmon Mansion and Pokmon Lab are slightly larger along with more sandy beach areas. The first and last questions in the Cinnabar Gym have also been
changed slightly for clarification. In Generation IV, the island stays much the same as Generation II, although the volcano is now climbable by Rock Climb.
In Pokmon Pinball, Cinnabar Island appears on the Red and Blue tables; catchable Pokmon include Growlithe, Ponyta, Grimer, Koffing, Tangela, Magmar, Omanyte, Kabuto and Aerodactyl.
Cinnabar Island is considered a mere beach resort in the anime. Many Trainers skip the island entirely or go there for a break from battling. Blaine runs a hotel for tourists and wears a hippie disguise to hide his real identity as Gym Leader. His Gym is located inside of the volcano.
The Cinnabar Gym has two sections in the anime; one is inside of the volcano, and has an arena suspended over the lava inside one of the chambers. The other arena is in the top crater of the volcano itself.
In Riddle Me This, Ash was trying to locate the Gym so he could challenge Free Cool Games Blaine. He was told by a man who liked telling riddles that the Gym disappeared when Cinnabar Island became a tourist trap. However, the man eventually told Ash that Blaine built another Gym inside of a volcano. When Ash and his friends went in, they learned that the riddler was actually Blaine in disguise. Ash and Blaine battled, but Ash had a series of misfortunes. The first was his Squirtle being defeated by Blaine's Ninetales. Then, his Charizard refused to listen to him. Finally, Pikachu received severe burns caused by Blaine's Magmar and its powerful Fire Blast. Ash called off the battle, not wanting Pikachu to get injured. In Volcanic Panic, after Team Rocket had almost destroyed Blaine's Gym (and Cinnabar Island as a result), he agreed to a rematch on his alternate battlefield on top of the volcano. This time, Ash was able to defeat Blaine with the help of his Charizard and its Seismic Toss.
Cinnabar Island debuted in Holy Moltres in the Red, Green & Blue chapter, where Team Rocket with their Gengar and Magnemite were trying to hunt down Blaine because he had quit Team Rocket. He used his Arcanine and Rapidash. When he saw Red he saved him from the cliff just as Team Rocket let out the Moltres they had captured earlier. Blaine told him to use his Rapidash to get to his lab and restore the Old Amber.
Later when Red came back he was joined with an Aerodactyl that he had restored. They
defeated Moltres and Team Rocket ran away.
Purification, or "opening the heart's door", is the only known method of changing a Shadow Pokmon back into a normal Pokmon. It is used in Pokmon Colosseum and Pokmon XD: Gale of Darkness to restore any Shadow Pokmon that Wes or Michael have snagged. Purification can be seen as a main goal in those games.
Before completely opening the door to a Shadow Pokmon's heart, its
Heart Gauge must first drop to zero, turning completely
white.
The following actions will slowly open the door to a Pokmon's heart: Zogre
Once a Pokmon's Heart Gauge is completely white, it is time to "undo the final lock," the final step in opening the door to a Shadow Pokmon's heart. This is done through a Purification Ritual. In Pokmon Colosseum, Purification Rituals can only be performed
at the Relic Stone in Agate Village, but in Pokmon XD: Gale of Darkness, they can also be performed in any Set of the Purify Chamber at Pokmon HQ
Lab as well.
In Pokmon Colosseum, the player can find up to three special items called Time Flutes to instantly purify any Shadow Pokmon by summoning Celebi at the Relic Stone, which will open the door to a Shadow Pokmon's heart. Time Flutes do not appear in Pokmon XD: Gale of Darkness.
Shadow Lugia is a special case and can only be purified if it is put into one of the Purify Chamber's Sets when all nine slots have achieved maximum tempo. Its Heart Gauge will also reset if the process is interrupted, such as by removing Shadow Lugia from the chamber.
Once a Pokmon is purified, any Shadow moves are replaced with other moves. In Pokmon XD, besides moves learned through level up, TM or breeding a just-purified Pokmon will know at least one special move. It immediately gains any Experience and Effort Values that it has earned in battles prior to the purification, meaning that it may gain one or more levels. The Pokmon receives a special Ribbon for "clearing all difficulties", and at this point the Pokmon Trainer may choose a nickname for it. The player is now able to trade the purified Pokmon with the GBA games Pokmon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen using a GameCube/GBA cable.
The following Pokmon can only gain certain moves if they are monster Gryvolt a Shadow Pokmon purified in Pokmon XD: Gale of Darkness:
Dusknoir (Japanese: Yonoir) is a Ghost-type Pokmon.
It evolves from Dusclops when traded holding a Reaper Cloth. It is the final form of Duskull.
Dusknoir's body is mostly black, with two almond shaped eye-like markings and a yellow horizontal zigzag line on this Pokmon's torso which can open like a mouth (creating the illusion of a face) and fire powerful attacks. On its back are markings resembling a face. Dusknoir now has fully developed arms. Two yellow bands are near its black wrists and its gray hands are similar to Dusclops's. Dusknoir has a gray, cylinder-shaped head with another yellow band near the top and a single glaring eye with a yellow iris and a red pupil. The tattered fringes of Dusknoir's lapels converge into a shawl collar on its upper chest. Dusknoir has a ghostly tail rather than feet, reminiscent of a genie, or a stylized 'cartoonish' depiction of a ghost. Dusknoir has a yellow antenna on top of its head in which allows this Pokmon to receive transmissions from the spirit world, which tell it to bring people there.
Dusknoir possess the ability to receive radio waves from the spirit world, and can also hold lost spirits in the mouth-like hole in its belly. Dusknoir also www.monstermmorpg.com/Games-Free has abilities typical of a Ghost-type Pokmon, but also has vast physical strength and can perform the elemental punches.
They receive radio signals from the spirit world that tell it to bring people there. In the anime however, a Dusknoir was seen protecting Ash and Angie from being sucked into a portal to the spirit realm by a ghost girl.
Dusknoir appeared in Pokmon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky - Beyond Time & Darkness where it was sent back in time to prevent Team Pokpals from changing the future.
Dusknoir made its debut appearance in Ghoul Daze! where it tried to protect humans from a ghost girl who was trying to send them to the spirit world. However, Dusknoir http://www.monstermmorpg.com/Urbai-Monster-Dex-362 was often blamed for the tro

Y Combinator founder Paul Graham is a father figure to countless startups he’s helped accelerate, but had never taken a board of directors seat until now. Today he announced he’s accepted board seat with Watsi, a site that lets people donate money to pay the medical bills of needy people. Watsi came out of this season’s Winter 2013 Y Combinator class and is the first non-profit it’s ever backed. More specifically, Watsi hosts profiles of people in dire need of medical care, but who can’t afford it. Donors can browse the profiles and donate as little as $5 to help someone get well. 100% of donations go to the sick, and Watsi funds its operations and even pays credit card processing fees on donations out of its own pocket. We named Watsi one of the top seven startups from the last YC Demo Day. Today, Graham tweeted: For the first time I agreed to be on a board of directors: @watsi's.— Paul Graham (@paulg) April 19, 2013 [Update: Watsi tells me "We're thrilled to have PG as our first board member. He's been an incredible advisor and supporter to us from the beginning and we look forward to growing Watsi with his continued guidance." So this is not only Graham's first board seat, but Watsi's too.] We’ve reached out to Graham for comment about why he accepted the position.?But he had already been showing the startup some love. After discovering the startup on Hacker News and meeting the team he invited them to be the first ever YC-backed non-profit. When the company launched, Graham wrote a blog post exclaiming “After about 30 seconds of looking at the site, I realized I was looking at one of the more revolutionary things I’d seen the Internet used for. Technology can now put a face on need. The people who need help around the world are individuals, not news photos, and when you see them as individuals it’s hard to ignore them.” He concluded, “I’ve never been so excited about anything we’ve funded.” Then after the Boston Marathon bombings he tweeted: When terrible things happen to people I can't help, I go to watsi.org and help people I can.— Paul Graham (@paulg) April 15, 2013 Beyond a few advising investing roles with companies like 280 North, he’s known to devote himself fully to Y Combinator. EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AP) ? At 97, retired Lt. Col. Richard Cole can still fly and land a vintage B-25 with a wide grin and a wave out the cockpit window to amazed onlookers.
David Thatcher, 91, charms admiring World War II history buffs with detailed accounts of his part in the 1942 Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, in which he earned a Silver Star.
Retired Lt. Col. Edward Saylor, 93, still gets loud laughs from crowds for his one liners about the historic bombing raid 71 years ago Thursday that helped to boost a wounded nation's morale in the aftermath of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor.
Cole, Thatcher and Saylor ? three of the four surviving crew members from the history-making bombing run ? are at Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle for a final public reunion of the Doolittle Raiders. They decided to meet at Eglin because it is where they trained for their top-secret mission in the winter of 1942, just weeks after the Japanese devastated the American fleet at Pearl Harbor.
The fourth surviving raider, 93-year-old Robert Hite, could not make the event.
"At the time of the raid, you know the war was on and it was just a mission we went on, we were lucky enough to survive it but it didn't seem like that big of a deal at the time. I spent the rest of the war in Europe and with the guys in Normandy and taking bodies out of airplanes and stuff and I didn't feel like a hero," Saylor said Wednesday following a ceremony in which an F-35 Joint Strike Fighter maintenance hangar at the base was named in his honor.
Saylor joked with the audience of young airmen and local dignitaries.
"My reaction when I out found out we were bombing Japan from an aircraft carrier was that it was too far to swim back home so we might as well go ahead with it," he said.
The 16 planes, loaded with one-ton bombs, took off from the aircraft carrier on less than 500 feet of runway. They had only enough fuel to drop their bombs and try to land in China with the hope that the Chinese would help them to safety.
"We were all pretty upbeat about it, we didn't have any bad thoughts about what was going to happen. We just did what we had to do," said Cole, who was Doolittle's co-pilot.
Wednesday's event at the base is part of a weeklong series of activities planned by the military and community leaders to honor the men.
Thomas Casey, business manager for the Raiders and a longtime fan of the men, said the four survivors have decided they can no longer keep up with the demands of group public appearances.
"The mission ends here in Fort Walton Beach on Saturday night, but their legacy starts then," he said.
Casey said he hopes everyone who has had a chance to interact with the men will keep their legacy alive. "I want them to tell the story to their children, their grandchildren, their neighbors and keep their story going because their story is worthwhile telling."
At each reunion is a case containing 80 silver goblets with the name of each raider inscribed right-side up and upside down on a single goblet. The men toast their fallen comrades each year and turn their goblets upside down in their honor.
They have also saved a bottle of Hennessy cognac from 1896, the year mission commander James Doolittle was born. The Raiders had said the final two survivors would open the bottle, but they have since decided that the four survivors will meet in private later this year for the toast.
At Thursday's dedication of the Saylor Hangar, the three men posed for pictures beneath a vintage B-25 bomber and an F-35 Joint Strike Fighter that sat beside it.
Col. Andrew Toth, commander of the F-35 squadron at Eglin, told the men, "You boosted the morale of this nation just four months after Pearl Harbor. Thank you for your dedication service."
Young airmen and women got the old veterans' autographs and thanked them for their service.
"I've seen the movies, you know 'Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.' I think this is awesome because they actually trained here at Eglin and they did the ceremony to actually name a hangar after one of the guys, it's pretty cool," said Air Force Lt. Col. Mike Matesick.
Larry Kelley owns the vintage B-25 aircraft that Cole flew a day earlier during a demonstration of four restored B-25s from the World War II era.
Kelley choked up when trying to explain what it has meant to him to meet Cole and the other raiders over the last several years and to have the men fly in his aircraft.
"Here are some of the most famous aviators that came out of World War II and they've never put a nickel in their pocket for notoriety," he said. Instead, he said, any money from book signings and appearances has always gone to the James H. Doolittle Scholarship Fund for aviation students.
Kelley said sitting beside Cole while Cole took the controls of the B-25 and landed the aircraft was a highlight of his life as a World War II and aviation buff.
